I have a coupon that will take the following config to $1019 + tax, free shipping. Is there a similarly spec'd laptop out there in the same price range... I'd rather not buy from Dell, but if that's where I find the best deal, so be it.

Specs:

Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz
XP Media Center
15.4" UltraSharp WS SXGA+ w/ TrueLife
512MB 1 DIMM
60GB 7200RPM
8X CD/DVD RW
Advanced HD Audio
Intel Pro Wireless 3945
85WHr 9 cell battery
Integrated Intel 950 graphics

If you scrap the coupon and go directly to their site and click on the deals link, you can get that same configuration, except with a gig of ram for $979. I just bought one for my mother last week for that price. A few days ago, it was only $917, but they've since gone back up to $979.

Click on this link, and config it from there:

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/...aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=E1505SP1&s=dhs

Looks like that configuration has a single-core processor. The OP's specs included Core Duo. If Core Duo isn't a requirement, seems like a decent price-- but for a little more I'd go for the OP's specs.

That's a terrible deal. You're using the wrong coupon. Xpbargains.com is the best site I've found for dell laptop coupons. From their site:

Some sample configs, price may change! Dell Inspiron E1505 notebook (Inspiron 6400) w/ Intel Core Duo 1.83GHz +$100, 15.4in WSXGA+ 1680x1050 +$100, 1GB DDR2 +$100, 60GB SATA +$40, Free 8x DVD+/-RW w/ Double layer, 256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 +$179, 56k/NIC/802.11g, XP Media Center Edition 2005, 1yr warranty for only $1518 - $450 off coupon code = $1068 w/ free shipping

Thanks bro!

todays deal is pretty damn good. my dad might be ordering one today, with all the things standard, just upgrading the display to the SXGA+ (1680x1050) and maybe the sound to the sound blaster audigy advanced HD, as well as the intel wifi and bluetooth...comes out to 875 without tax/shipping. not bad at all.

i got the e1505..kept it for about an hr before I sold it and ordered a IBM T60. The SXGA+ screen is very beautiful, just be ready for how large of a laptop this is. 6.x lb doesnt seem very heavy, but the laptop itself is very bulky, close to 2" thick closed, and felt kind of cheap with all the plastic. Its a great laptop for the price, but I decided to spend a couple bucks more for a smaller IBM, which fit what I was going to use it for much better (portability is much more important than power)

It very difficult to fault Dell when price is a determinng factor. Most buyers go Dell, some discerning buyers will pick IBM or Macbooks.

One should go with what makes them happy. Ask yourself, if you happy with the deal, then go Dell, otherwise ...........
