Edit: Oops, thought I had posted this in the SFF/Notebooks forum.

I have a coupon that will take the following config to $1019 + tax, free shipping. Is there a similarly spec'd laptop out there in the same price range... I'd rather not buy from Dell, but if that's where I find the best deal, so be it.

Specs:

Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz
XP Media Center
15.4" UltraSharp WS SXGA+ w/ TrueLife
512MB 1 DIMM
60GB 7200RPM
8X CD/DVD RW
Advanced HD Audio
Intel Pro Wireless 3945
85WHr 9 cell battery
Integrated Intel 950 graphics

For college use, I recommend a few upgrades.
Go with the faster 1.83GHz.
Up to 1GB RAM
128MB Video
Go with Win XP Pro.

These are the minimum requirements that I recommend for students and business clients. It surely will raise the overall price but you'll be happy later. Its a serious investment and this lappy will be around 5 years from now. You can't upgrade it later for this price.

Don't compromise when it comes to a good laptop. You're got the plan, now its up to you.....
