but if he is in good shape and his butt is already toned, won't that just make his but bigger?

part of it is how you arch your spine. difference between westerners and easterners in the posterior region is how much arch they have in their spine.

because easterners used to sit on the floor vs in chairs, they tended to have less of an arch in their lower back.

westerners on the other hand tend towards overarching their back.

try shifting your hips forward a bit (tho not really good for your lower back) you'll be surprised how much your butt goes in.

My standard message:

You cannot "spot burn" fat. You need to reduce your overall body fat and your genetics will determine where the fat is burned from....some people are genetically predisposed to have the fat settle in their <insert problem area here>, others have it settle on their <insert other random body part here>, it's sad but true, you can blame your parents for that. So watch what you eat, lift weights, and exercise....the rest is in your genes (no pun intended here).

based on his drawing of himself, i'd say Fat isn't the issue.

if you have lower back pain or fatigue frequently than it could be an arch problem.

one thing that can help is to strenthen your abdomen.

Yes, if you are overarching your back, it means that your lower back muscles are over powering your abdomen muscles. doing crunches and learning to breath properly (from you diaphragm) will help strengthen your lower abdomen and your back will naturally strengthen.

i have the exact opposite problem you do, i started at a very young age to put my hips forward because it would flatten my posterior and flatten my stomach.

also, i've done a LOT of singing since i was very young and i have a very very strong abdominal muscles which over power my lower back muscles.

for me, i have to strengthen my lower back muscles, which will give me more of an arch.

Jogging, running, biking. Anything cardio. Squats aren't going to do much. You'll just have a muscular fat ass.
