"Whenever the U.S. feels like it"
That is about right... See my thread about why this isn't about Iraq anymore...

This is more about the issue of the United States being able to attack whenever we damm well please without so much as a word one way or another from anyone else.

We're the only nation on Earth that can do this on such a global scale, and I think it scares the crap out of Europe.

It scares me too.

Especially since my goverment isn't only powerless to be part of a process that could disuade the U.S. (i.e. a U.N. that the U.S. REALLY wanted to be an equal part of) but actively supports them down to the last detail. For example. When policy statements are made in the U.S. concerning Iraq, virtually identical statements from our foreign secretary/prime minister are often presented minutes afterwards. These are obviously planned sometime in advance and are often put forward as an independant viewpoint that happens to agree, rather than a pact.

very strange, or not though, how this is presented in the news in the US and in Europe, its like its two different things

here the talk is that the EU agrees that weapon inspection should go on and that force should only be used as a last resort

hey Czar...............how goes it?😉

Anyhoo.........here's the BBC headline............................

  • EU moves to heal Iraq divisions
EU leaders end an emergency summit on Iraq by agreeing force would be a last resort but arms inspections cannot continue indefinitely.

Straightforward and direct......now they simply need to put a definative date on things IMHO.

This is why this release is a BS agreement. It is open ended. Basically they just agreed on what they agreed on in Resolution 1441. this is just another evade/dodge of enforcing the oridgional resolutions that brought about the cease fire.
