E-mails come back as "Undeliverable" in Outlook

Everytime I try to send a message in Outlook, I get a return message from "System Administrator" with "Undeliverable" in the Subject and the following:

"Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: test
Sent: 11/15/2005 6:26 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

on 11/15/2005 6:26 PM
550 5.7.1 < >... Relaying denied"

Any ideas on how to fix this or what may be going wrong? I've tried this with several different e-mail addresses and it even does this on replys. I went to Test Account Settings and everything checks out fine except Send test e-mail message. Thanks in advance.

Triple check your smtp settings, your user name and password, and check for typo's in your smtp settings.

The other thing it could be is, who are you using for your smtp host, and what ISP are you using.

For example: You set the smtp setting to your Road Runner email account, but you are on a Charter internet connection. Getting another providers email out of your ISP's network usually doesn't work anymore. They block this to try and slow down spammers.

There are ways around this, with the simplest being put "mail" in place of smtp in your outgoing server settings. This does not work in all cases.

redbeard1, thanks for your feedback. The scenario you mentioned is correct. I have a Road Runner e-mail account (my parents have the master and it's still active), but am using Comporium for my internet connection. I used to be able to use my RR e-mail on the Comporium connection without a problem until two days ago.

I tried the tip you listed and put "mail" in place of smtp in my outgoing server settings, but that didn't work. Any other ideas? Thanks again!

Are you using the option to authenticate against the SMTP server?

Otherwise, find out if:
A) Your ISP is denying the use of other SMTP servers
B) RR is denying the use of their SMTP servers from outside their IP range

You should try to authenticate. You should also try using your ISP's SMTP server. Just try these and if they do not work contact your ISP. I know I have issues with my at home ISP using their mail servers out of their IP range so I had to set them up as secure I believe.

Comporium probably just changed their settings to close holes.

Putting in their smtp settings, for your area, should work.
