Congrats on giving the government an interest free loan while savings rates were at 4% this whole year!

I've learned my lesson for this year. 2 claimed dependents for Fed, 1 for state 😛.

I guess as long as you learned your lesson (I learned mine for tax year 2004).

I claimed 0 for both last year, which is why I'm getting so much back. I've realized that it's not in my best interest to give more money to the government than I need to when I have credit card bills I need to pay now 🙂.

eFiling is great. I have been using Taxactonline.com for years and love it. Very easy to use, even if you have to itemize a lot of stuff. Though my returns got rejected last night because I typed the wrong last digit on my SS#. :| Had to resubmit today and waiting to hear back for the IRS approval.

For some people it makes sence to overpay

I work many jobs, in a given year I can get 2-6 1099's.
I also work a full time job.
Instead of changing my w-4 based on workload, I overpay.

4% would be less than $50 bucks for me.

I like to overpay as its a way for me to save money to waste on something when I get my tax return back in, while using the official return money for bills etc...extra 10 bucks every paycheck and its an extra $200 bucks when taxes come back in

Still waiting for all my W2's. I've worked at three places this year, and they are all taking their time. Well, worked at two actually, but I switched contract agencys at my current job so I get another W2 for that.

The goverment thanks you for letting them borrow money interest free.

Getting a refund means you let the goverment borrow money interest free.

Thank you Captain Obvious.

Man I jumped around jobs this year...

I'm at 5 w2's I'm waiting on. I got 1 so far. Gotta pick up 1 or 2 of em. No more switching jobs like a bunny. 🙁

I knew a few of the "you let the goverment borrow money interest free" NAZIs would put their 2 cents in.

The NAZIs need to STFU already.

Lets say the avearge person in here get about $600 back.
Thats $50 into the bank per month.
Instead of getting back $600, with 4%....you get $611 instead.
Whoo Hoo....you've just made a killing there.

Yeah, it make sense if you were getting $5K back every year but most people in here are students and
1) They aren't getting much back
2) They don't have a sense of saving money anyway.

my company never sends me my w2
I always have to chase them around for it. Such a pita.

Just make ONE complaint to the IRS about it. By law, they have until the 31st of January to provide you with the W2 form for the previous year's income (though I have seen companies stretch that a bit, by postmarking it by the 31st!! ).

If they don't, you have the right to complain to the IRS. Get others at your company to do the same, and the IRS will give your employer a friendly little phone call, reminding them that they ARE breaking the law, and can face jail time and/or fines. Trust me, all it takes is one of those phone calls from the feds, and they'll get their stuff together!

Filed last week and received state today (direct deposit). Federal is still in process. Oh, and I've tried to not receive a refund (at least federal) for the last two years even increasing dependants to 8 on federal this year. Still received a refund. I guess I can go even higher on exemptions.

Why dont you want a refund? Two other ways to accomplish your goal might be to make a contribution to reduce the national debt OR have whatever 'refund' you get applied to next years income tax. 😕
