$279.30 at Target, and it's the special red target one

Awesome vacuum, it's picking up all the cat dander/dog fur/butt hair that's been in the carpet since we moved in and has been driving my allergies as well as my roommate crazy. Plus it's insanely easy to manuever. My only gripe with it is the stupid wand attachment, using it is almost impossible; it was easier for me to just plop the whole vacuum right on top of the couch and roll it around.

The manual says it's supposed to have a sticker under the dust bin for marking when you washed the filter. It's not there :(. I checked everywhere inside the box, and it's just not there... If any of you have Dysons, where was this magical sticker?

That was a good price. The Hoover knockoff from Walmart for $99 is a better value, but you didn't do too bad. Check with their online forums (yes, they have forums) for filter cleaning.

IIRC that sticker is either on the cover or very close to the cover of the filter you are supposed to clean. I can check when I get home if someone doesn't give you the answer before then. The only time we use that wand is with the floor attachment otherwise we just use the attachments plugged directly into the hose.

Oy, I checked all over it and it's nowhere to be found :(

The sticker on ours is underneath the main canister. If you take it out like you are going to empty it the sticker is on the flat piece it sits on.

I wouldn't say so. A guy I've gotten to know who owns a vacuum store told me he only sells them because the markup is stupidly high so he makes a good profit on each one, but that they're not that great. I don't know how accurate it would be to call them the Monster Cables of the vacuum world, but that's how I look at it.

/THREAD!
I paid $140. for my Eureka Boss 4870, and it cleans alot better than all of the crappy dysons. I actually have 2 of them. One for the outside porch where the cats stay most of the time, and one for the inside of the house.

(snippet......)
Reviewers say the Eureka SmartVac 4870GZ is the best value in a bagging upright vacuum cleaner, cleaning as well or better than more expensive models and doing a very good job of picking up pet hair on carpeting. However, at 20 pounds, this vacuum can be cumbersome to push and hard to carry up and down stairs.

It's funny, because they say it's hard to push? The thing pulls forward! If I let it go and it held the same handle position, it would go on it's own

It's the best overall vacuum out there!

I got my Roomba for $50. at Lowe's (new/clearance) and use it in the spare bedrooms that are'nt used except when relatives visit. They really are only good for non traffic areas though. Just good for surface cleaning.

As a guy, I never thought I'd ever think paying over $200 for a vacuum cleaner was acceptable, until I bought a refurb dyson dc14 from woot. That thing is the straight shit. The commercial is right, it never loses suction. No nasty filters or bags to deal with either. I  my dyson.

My sis had one and we compared my Eureka against the Dyson. She thought she paid too much and asked to borrow my Eureka for the week. She ended up selling it to a friend for a little less than she paid for it and also bought 2 Eurekas. My sis has 2 dogs and a cat. She now uses one for the outside porch, and one inside ;)

Infomercial/Commercial, whatever.

I got a Bissell Healthy home which is about $200. It uses the same root 8 cyclone thing as dyson but is much heavier.

The guy at sears said they actually make the most on Kenmore progressives (consumer ratings top vac). He also mentioned the dysons were repaired the least.

Shoot, a $200 vacuum would have been a steal in my book. Still being newly married, when the wife decided she wanted the $1,300 Kirby that the door-to-door saleman was selling several years ago because she "grew up with a Kirby" and "it lasted forever", who was I to say no?

I have Dyson (animal version). I think we paid $380 at Kohls with 30% coupon.
It's great.
I also have Sharper Image air "Purifier", that's great also. So, there..
