dyndns

most home connections have a dynamic ip so it changes often, what dyndns does is allow your machine to connect to a server and send your ip so it can be mapped to something.dyndns.com This is useful if you want to remote into your home machine for various things, or if you want to run your own personal server

DynDNS have variety of services.

The typical let you establish a Dynamic presence on the web.

You subscribe to the service and choose a sub-domain.

Let say it is rasczak.dyndns.org

Then download from dyndns.prg a little program that you install on you computer and configure it with your credential to update the Domain sever.

At periods of your choice the little program will auto connect to the service and tell it what your ISP Internet address is.

If you have a Server, remote control application, camera, or anything that can accpept connetion from the Internet into your network, your Internet address is rasczak.dyndns.org, dyndns will redirect the traffic to your external Home Router.

Most home internet connections have a dynamic IP, meaning it changes frequently (as often as daily or weekly).

Dynamic DNS is an internet service that sets up a domain (like rasczak.dynamic.com) and makes sure the public DNS for that domain always points to your home's current dynamic IP.

People want this if they want to remote into the home machine while they are not at home (cafe, library, work, friend's house). They also sometimes want this because they have a VPN at home and want to tunnel sensitive traffic through their secure VPN while they are away from home (some do this to bypass work proxies or filters). Another reason to do this is if you are running some type of server at home, like an FTP, or a web server or something.
