Dyndns account expiration

I've been using the free Dyndns service for about 5 months now. For the last 2 months I've received emails stating that my account will expire because of inactivity. They provide a link to update the account and prevent expiration. They say I can purchase an upgrade to prevent my account from automatically expiring. My question is, how do they determine that my account has been inactive? I really have no need to ever login to my account via their website, since all I use the service for is my home IP DDNS name (which I access it by almost every day).

If your Extranral IP does not change for long time the Utility would not update it.

So their system sees it as though you have a static IP, and thus do not need (or use) their service.

Periodically (like once every other week) open the Update utility and force an update even if the IP did not change since the last update.

Be careful about the update frequency -- these guys are touchy on this subject, and they will lock out your account if you update it too frequently.

Updates should only be performed when your IP address has changed. We allow users to modify or "touch" their host every 28 days to prevent their hosts from expiring. Everything else is abusive.

These are all relative Notions.

I have one DSL connection that IP changes every day or two.

I have No problem using the connection with the DNS service even thought it is Updating so often.

However, I also have Cable service and the IP changes every 6 weeks. I use to get these expiration warnings.

When I contact the DNS service and was told that if my IP stay the same for so long I should manually update few times through the duration.

By abuse they mean force update like every few minutes.
