dynamic raid in winxp?

substance

i want to speed up my drives, without buying a hardrive to match the one i have, and a raid card.
I have a western digital special editon 120gb with 8 meg buffer cache, and a 40 gig maxtor drive with 2mb cache. i wanted to know if it would increase my hardrive speed if i used disk managment in winxp pro to "dynamicaly raid" my drives using striping. so i would have one big 160 gig drive. is this not a good idea? will it make my drives faster?
also, should i put my harddrives on seperate ide channels? or on the same cable? thanx in advance...

No offence, but your post show a lack of basic understanding of raid, so i strongly sugest that u read some articles b4 doing anything

with those 2 HD's you will be beter off not using any real raid (including 0). the performance of the maxtor woulpd prolly just slowwdown the WD(which is the fastest ATA drive). If you want it to look like 1 big HD ur best bet is to use JBOD/linear mode to combine the drives. This does come at the price of not being able to move all ur data and repartition the second HD, say for onother os. u should definately have each one be a master on a differant cable. Also b sure that dma is on.
