Dynamic DNS Hosting

I own a domain, and have found a dynamic DNS hosting company (No-IP) to host this domain for my home network since my DSL Internet connection is a dynamic IP address.

If I have multiple boxes on my network all connected thru a switch which is connected to a DSL modem, how can I enable a web and mail server on just ONE of these boxes. Also, I'm unsure as to how I can route all Internet traffic right to this box without having to worry about security issues towards on other devices

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Port-forwarding on your router takes the TCP port on the Internet/WAN facing IP address and forwards it to a static IP address on your LAN facing network. This is a 1:1 mapping not a multicast to all servers. You only need to worry about security on those machines and ports that you forward to.

Generally all routers allow you to forward different ports to different servers - in my configuration my webcam and web server are on seperate static IPs. Most routers also allow you to map from one port number to another while doing the port forwarding

e.g.

<WANIP>:80 forwards to 192.168.2.254:80 for my HTTP server
<WANIP>:81 forwards to 192.168.2.253:80 for my webcam.

Here port 81 facing the internet is mapped to port 80 on a different network device.

Port-forwarding is quite effective for most service types

Hope this helps

Steve.
