Dynamic disk

I don't know much about a dynamic disk other than I know it can allow you to do a software RAID 0, 1 not sure if it can do 0+1 or not through ur OS. Other than that I don't know what is can do I would be interested if anyone knows?
 
Your data should not be affected (yeah, famous last words). Look in Windows Help for more info about dynamic disks. 🙂
 
It makes your system somewhat faster... especially with SCSI hard drives. I know this use to be required in 2K/XP if you wanted your SCSI drive to perform up to speed.
You can convert your drives to dynamic disk without losing data. However, you won't be able to boot into any other operating systems and in order to go back to a basic disk you'd have to format. You also can't convert (most) laptop hard drives to dynamic disks. And as mentioned above you can also use dynamic disks to take advanatage of software RAID.
 
I looked in Windows help and now see what it is. Never knew the feature existed 😱. I can't see how it could increase speed with a single disk though. It would still have to write to different volumes sequentially as multiple volumes would be accessed on the same ide channel. It wouldn't be any good for mirroring either as all the volumes would be lost simultaneously with a drive failure.
