Dynamic Disk not detecting

I have two sata hdds, one bootable(HD1) and other non bootable(HD2).
1. I was running winxp, when i first bought the HD2 i just pluged and played it in my winxp system.
2. Now i have formated and did a fresh install of winxp on HD1. The HD2 and its partitions are not detected nor listed in My Computer.
3. It says a Dynamic disk in the disk management utility under Control panel > system management
4. How can i access the dynamic disk with formatting HD2, it cause i have data on it.
Will i be able to change it back to a basic disk without formatting.
regards
Ash.

Hi thanx but i follow the following step from disk management

" On the Action menu, click Rescan Disks.
If the disks are dynamic disks, Disk Management displays Import Foreign Disks dialog box. "
I dont get the Import Foreign Disks dialog box.
In the diskmanagement on the harddisk icon their is a red cross mark and it says Dynamic below it and Unreadable below it.
Should i unplug the HD and replug it. The HD is detected in the Device Manager.
Or is their any other way that i should import a HD in computer management.
Ash.

*This* is why dynamic disks are a bad thing. If you had another dynamic disk in the system, the LDM database could be found on that disk, and you might be able to reconstruct the disk. Barring that, you're SOL without some other vendor's disk utilities - and it will need to be able to read dynamic disks, which some won't do.

Unless you need it for a *very* specific purpose, I suggest not using dynamic disks.

I dont have another dynamic disk, whats an LDM dbase how could i get it.
I might sound dumb now....err i just remember that i just basic win xp and no sp1 or sp2.....and somewher on the http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/utils.html page it said that you need an sp1 to detect ATA HD with more than 137 gb if true....is their anyway i can enable the HD without upgrading to sp1 or sp2 or should i upgrade.

This is the mail i got from seagate support.

Hello Ashwanth,

When you formatted the 2nd hard drive, you selected the 'Dynamic'
partition option. This is a special type of partition where the partitions
setup information is held on the main boot drive in a file. When you
formatted and reinstalled Windows, that special file was removed and with
it the necessary information to access the 2nd hard drive's partition.

You can either convert the drive to a 'Basic' drive and reformat to start
over causing you to lose the data, or you can send your drive to a data
recovery specialist who may be able to retrieve the data on the drive for
you.

Yep. Friends don't let friends use dynamic disks:

I love how Seagate LIES to him about what is wrong, doesn't bother to mention that drives can be converted to basic without formatting and then offers to sell him data recovery services.
