It also had bits of hand written song pieces in the case. I'd love to have that guitar, but the price is a touch out of my range.

I read this as Dyson Stratocaster. I could only picture a guitar that vacuums, or a vacuum that could shred at music.

Out of yr range!:D

And, out of the range of MOST.:sneaky:

Can not fully wrap my brain around this.....hand written bits or not.

Hammer price was waaaaaaaay above the estimate.

A fool and his money!

If the mysterious winner of the auction could give what he did, I doubt he could be a fool.....well, unless it's a Saudi Prince or some trust fund recipient who never worked a day.

I wanna know who bought it!

And, remember, I have no clue about the increments in the auction for this thing, but hadda be at least one backbidder---who bid almost as much.

Perhaps the most iconic guitar on earth, it's hard to see it being a bad investment. When Dylan kicks off the value will probably double.

I did not know that, re the most iconic. More than Lennon? More than Hendrix???

I also read and now get why his changing from acoustic to electric was some big deal for HIM......but still do not get how it "changed American music."

But I relate to yr signature!

Maybe Jay-Z bought it! Diddy! Taylor Swift!!

Kidding. But who knows?

Have a feeling it was someone in a distant country.

O! Just came upon this!

http://www.artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/07/12/a-dispute-over-a-famous-dylan-guitar/?_r=0

Wow. But Christie's would not have gone there unless the provenance was pristine and the ownership settled.

Starting to feel as if Dylan could not stand the puppy in question got away from him, meaning someone else would reap the dead Presidents, not he.

Wow....this is even more interesting than I realized! Re the dispute, I mean. Please, THAT is the real deal puppy!

Formidable experts proved it.

Bob Dylan - The Newport Stratocaster

The 1964 Fender Stratocaster that Bob Dylan played in his historic electric set at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 was lost for 47 years when Dylan left it on an airplane. It surfaced with the daughter of the pilot of the plane and was authenticated as the guitar Dylan used at Newport by expert Andy Babiuk on the PBS show "History Detectives" in 2012.

It would be hard to overestimate the contribution Dylan made to popular music, and the culture of the 60s.

OK, I believe you.... but weren't there already tons of musicians playing electric when he switched?

Now, I really wanna know who bought the thing!!!!

It's just just the contribution. Lots of people made big contributions and their instruments would fetch a pretty penny. But those guys all played many different guitars through their careers and are not so closely associated with any particular axe. Other than Hendrix burning his at Monterey, no other guitar EVER is more closely associated with a moment. And as Jimi's guitar was destroyed and tossed into the audience, this one the single most iconic guitar left on earth. When Dylan plugged in for the first time at Newport, it was one of the most talked-about moments in rock history and the guitar itself got elevated from instrument to symbol of change. It's way more important that just being a celebrity guitar, it's truly one of a kind. Given that Clapton's "Blackie" sold for almost the same price, this one could be a bargain.

There was only one Dylan that switched. The guitar is unimportant in this context. It was the fact that the guitar was used on stage when Dylan debuted his electric act. It was the end of an era, and the beginning of a new era. It's a symbol of the shift of a giant, and consequences would never be the same ;^)

Personally for that kind of money and for iconic value I'd prefer to own Lenny or Lucille, but Dylan's guitar is cool too.

For that kinda money, and things starting with letter F (Fender), I'd rather own a Ferrari F-40.:sneaky:

Jus sayin.():)
