Dying Router?

Howdy all,

I have a Linksys WRT54G router. Its an older version, say about 3-4 years old. Its been great. I have two PCs running off it wirelessly and a third running with a wired connection.

Under normal circumstances I get about 10-15Mbps on the wired connection, and up to 28Mbps when Comcast's "speedboost" kicks in. On the wireless connections I average about 8-10 normal, and 15-17 with speedboost.

However, tonight this suddenly has changed. On my wired connection everything is as normal. Great speeds and reliability. However both computers connected via wireless are experiencing a MAX of 2-2.5 Mbps down and about .5Mbps up.

I have reset the modem and router multiple times. I've tested the wireless on both a desktop and laptop, with the same results. The wired connection is unaffected.

Any suggestions on what I might try? Or is it just time to retire the old blue beast and get a new one?

Thanks

Try different frequencies/channels?

There could be something interfering with the wireless signal. Any new electronics in the home?

No new electronics in our house, but we live in a condo complex so maybe our neighbors have something new. Will try changing channels/freqs. Thanks!

I've recently had a similar thing happen, but all my wireless devices went down. I've done the usual resets and was fiddling around in win7 home groups with no luck. I think I'm in the market for a new router......it was a good router.

update: switching/routing works with wire connections, but the wireless went kaput.

I ordered a new E2000 we'll see if it is any good and then i'll take apart the WRT54G and tinker.
