Dying PSU

So I started up my 1700+ system for the first time in a LONG time and the PSU made this terrible growling noice, like the fan was about to come off its bearings.

I noticed that all of the sudden my CPU wouldn't OC as well, and even when I backed down the CPU clock, I would get random reboots after a while. I would go to work, come back and the comp would be at the windows log on screen when I left it at the desktop.

It's a POS 350w Raidmax PSU which served me well for about 2 years now, but I think it's on it's last leg.

Can a dying PSU cause such CPU instability as a weakened OC and random reboots?

Also, if that PSU blows up, is it gonna blow up the rest of my computer?

I would answer Yes to all of those.

RaidMax are horrible pieces of stinky garbage. Please spare your computer and buy something quality.

Q #1.) Yes, definitely. Stable and available power is vital to any attempts at OC.
Q #2.) Yes, the flames will spread to your other components, which will catch on fire and cease to function. Seriously though, if the PSU malfunctions, there's no telling what might happen to your other components. Nothing good, anyway.

So get yourself a decent PSU. You don't have to go all out and get a PCP&C or Seasonic, but something decent and maybe > 350W.

I know its a POS, but it's performed admirably for 2 years.

1700+ @ 2.2GHZ rock stable for those 2 years.

$50 for the case and PSU, it's earned the right to die I guess.
