Dying PSU cause of PC not POSTing?

Greetings,
today I received my new case. a Thermaltake Armor Extreme Edition. I just got finished swapping all my components and attempted to boot the PC and got nothing. No post at all. At first I thought it might just be as simple as my video card, but after changing that out, it did the same thing. I noticed there was a mounting screw that I hadn't put a screw in through the motherboard and in this particular area, the motherboard had no insulation from the case. So I took out my mobo and removed that screw. Success, it posted. So, I put my 8800 back in in place of the 6800 I used to check the POST thing. All of a sudden, wouldn't post anymore. I fooled around with the motherboard and changed the screws to make sure they were all tightly down. After doing this, I attempted to boot the PC again. Nothing. No POST. So, I took the power plug out of the PSU and flipped it off. I decided to try one more time before tearing the thing apart in frustration. Well, I turned the power switch back on (on the PSU) and hit the power button. Nothing happened. I remembered I'd left the thing unplugged, so I plugged it in.

Here's where my question comes in: When I plugged it in, a few sparks shot out of the male plug on the PSU. I promptly unplugged the PSU and switched it off again. I replugged it in and flipped it on and now all I hear is some sizzling and sparking from the PSU.

So essentially, two questions: Did I fry my PSU or was it on it's way out already? As well, if it was dying, could this be the cause of my no boot?

As well, I have a Fortron 400W PSU sitting around here so I'm going to put that in and see what happens. Will that be enough for my 8800GTS, or should I switch back to the 6800 and stick with it until I get another PSU?

As well, the PSU that fried was an Antec Trupower 2.0 550W

First of all you need to STOP TRYING THINGS. Really, make a plan or if inexperienced, try a site like Mechbgon's You may have fried your MB, GPU and, ram as well.

Well, sure enough, I fried the mobo.
Then, while disassembling the PC, a capacitor fell off my video card. Least I have a lifetime warranty on that.

OK, time to take a break and walk away. You're minutes away from burning down the house. Go get a beer (root beer if you're not old enough) and come back to it later.

Quite frustrating, yes. However, I'm not terribly angry about the whole thing. I happen to have a strange patience for it all.

In fact, I was more pissed that the PC wouldn't POST. With it being busted, it's like I now have the answer to my problem because I don't have to ****** with it any more :)

That-a-boy! Assign all your worldly goods to me and I'll make your last days lavish but, stay away from electricity until you do. :)

But otherwise, I guess it's time to upgrade. I'm just not sure if I should buy a cheaper CPU now or wait until Intel's price drops, I'd have to save-up some cash anyway, but July 22nd+ is a long time to be away from all my music (god I hope I didn't fry my 320gig) and gaming.

Out of curiosity, you don't think it blew out my HDD's, eh? It seems unlikely, but you never know. Hopefully it didn't kill my sound card or video card.
