So, with more and more exposure online...What would you do if someone somewhere sent what appeared to be an urgent call for help?
Like the drug overdose deal, where people watched? What would you do if someone Aim'd you,. or MSN'd you or whatever, or in a chat room?
Would you pass it off, or would you follow up?
And different levels. What if ALL you had was the AIm window. No # or anything?

if all you had was an AIM window, how *could* you do anything?

Do you know person or is it a complete stranger? Can't you ask that person for contact information - such as an address to send in to the police/ambulance?

If it was one of my friend's I'd know if they were being serious and I'd probably call the appropriate authorities. Anyone else I would dismiss as an idiot.

Hypothetical questions kinda suck. :)

If I didn't know them then I wouldn't bother. I'd assume it was a prank.

"gopunk for Elite!"

Not sure about an AIM window, but sometimes you can do more with an ATOT thread than you think..

Why would someone give their phone number to a stranger on IRC/AIM especially if its an emergency? Is that person naive enough to expect a complete stranger to help him/her out of the blue? Why not calling 911 ? Calling an acquaintance would make more sense too.

Just depends on the situation, it's too vague of a scenario.

As far as locating them via AIM, you could have them directly connect, and get their IP via whatever firewall doohicky you use, then call up their ISP.

Yeah, call their ISP, that's really going to help. You would probably be on hold for at least 3 hours.
