Asus P4S333

A 10gb WD bought in 2000, died about 2 weeks ago. Replaced it with a Samsung 40gb HD, and it died after 2 days of use. Bought a Maxtor 40gb and it had been working for a week fine, with XP and 98SE installed.

So today I decide to remove 98 as I didn't need it. So i just format the whole drive and install XP again. XP Setup would not start with my OC ( which is 140FSB, 1.6vcore, 4:5 ratio). Changed back to default settings and XP installed fine. Change back to OC settings, I start installing drivers and XP randomly restarted. And the HD sounded funny ..... uh oh. Re-start and XP loads fine and finish the drivers installations

K now an hour later XP locked up and I had to restart... but now during the bootup, it saids invalid system disk.. blah blah... but the Maxtor drive is still showing up fine in the bios.

Set back to default settings, try to re-install Windows XP and during installtion got a BSOD.

Memory timings are spd except for the last command which is 1T

The motherboard is about 6 months old, the maxtor 40gb HD is about 2 weeks old ( I should be able to RMA it if it dies )

Comments/help would be helpfully

Shouldn't a motherboard that has OCing features be able to handle it ?

Another possibility is a bad power supply. If the power supply is feeding an inconsistent amount of power to your drives, it could cause them to fail much sooner. Can you give the brand of the power supply and the specs?

installed the new powersupply and so far everything is running stbale. :)

Windows XP pro would not install at 133 FSB, vcore 1.6v and auto memory. Even after installing Windows, XP pro would not start 133FSB. Weird. I changed to 145 FSB, vcore 1.6v and 4:5 memory raito. XP loaded fine. I ran Prime 95 and Seti for 8 hours today, both at the same time. I figure if a part of this system didn't like to be OCed, my system would have crashed but it didn't so I have a rock stable system now
