Dying HDD, help please

With no warning or SMART errors, my data drive has gone south. Boot takes 10 minutes. There was a 2 hour disk check that fixed errors but it did nothing. The computer hangs just trying to open the directory and forget copying files.

Only thing is this is my data drive. I have not backed it up in several days and need to get files off it. ,but what to do when it takes minutes just to load?

Any suggestions?

I recovered some necessary files but one important file was fubared. The Outlook PST. Ironically I copied it to the D drive, the one that failed, because I thought the problem was with C. On a reboot, Windows did a deep analysis of the D drive and found problems with the Outlook PST file.

End result? a 600M file that is completely invalid. I've tried 4 different PST repair apps, none work. The file is totally effed.

I've got the drive in the freezer to get other stuff, but I've lost years of saved emails and contacts. I am beyond upset right now.

Sorry, you lost the data, and and i dont have any more suggestions to help. I think this case really shows the need for online backup to some kind of cloud service.
