The Xperia Z2 is Sony's latest flagship smartphone and replaces the Z1. The full-HD display measures 5.2 inches and offers better viewing angles than its predecessor's 5-inch equivalent. While a new Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM offer plenty of power, the camera specification is nearly identical to the Z1's. Images are captured by a 20.7MP 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor on a F2.0 lens. Nevertheless, Sony has managed to improve the image quality of its new flagship.

With a DxOMark Mobile score of 79 the Sony Xperia Z2 is the new number one in the DxOMark smartphone rankings, placing itself in front of the Nokia 808 and its own predecessor, the Xperia Z1.

With Stereo speaker, waterproofing and excellent camera (for a smartphone) and a 3200mAh battery. Seems like a no brainer now.

i'm tempted to upgrade from my nexus 5 (to get more storage, battery and water proofing).... solves the viewing angle problem with the Z/Z1

just wished they had included wireless charging by default... i've been pampered by my wireless charger at work

Camera quality is really important to me. Waterproofing is sort of interesting. I know when we go on vacations we look into renting some waterproof cameras. This could solve that too.

The problem with this thing is that it's even bigger and heavier than the M8. Unless you're really camera focused, you should probably get the Note 3 and its much larger screen.

Some people don't want Note 3/Samsung and size isn't the only criteria to judge a phone. Honestly, could you stop posting this on every single thread that's not a Samsung thread?

Yeah I know, I was just wondering what was paperwastage saying.

hm.. thought it had a removable battery

oh well, i'll wait for the Z3 then :D

I wouldn't really do that though... a bad seal and your phone might be toast...

also, the xperia Z's display stops working when you submerge it in water.. dunno about the Z2

Is Sony still gun shy about the US market? Hard for me to understand why they're not really selling here anymore. The Z2 looks great, albeit a bit large, but you can't find it at any US carrier.

Yeah, I don't want this to turn into another Samsung Active debacle. The display not working is sort of expected but I see there's a hardware shutter button so getting it to take a picture should be ok.

sony's still afraid. they shuttered a few of their US retail stores recently too

rumor is Verizon and T-mobile will get it (probably in like 5 months when the Z2L comes out)

i'm just wondering if they had some workaround for it (eg water + capacitive screen won't work, but does the gloved feature allow it to work underwater?)

Wouldn't hold your breath to see a removable battery in future Sony phones, or future smartphones in general. Its a dying breed.

Edit - I think you can import the Intl Z2s and use them on AT&T & TMO. It supports their LTE bands, I think.

My only problem with this phone is that it's barely smaller and lighter than the Note 3 but it has a much smaller screen. I just can't do big bezels anymore.

well, microSD / removable battery were considered a dying breed. now, microSD making a comeback (HTC One 2014 vs 2013, Oppo Find 7 vs Find 5, LG G Pro 2 vs G2 [ish])

Xperia Z2 D6503 fully supports AT&T (2, 4, 17), and supports T-mobile (2, 4) right now, but doesn't support the band 12 that t-mobile bought from verizon this year.

Rumored version D6508 support Verizon's CDMA bands & LTE (4, 17)

Don't buy the other two versions (D6502, D6543)
