I've got a geforce4 ti4400, 128mb video ram. I want a card that's better and has full dx9 capabilities for less than $150 if possible.

Do I have any options? I know the new ATI is up around $300, but that's just too much for me.

I have no video card product loyalty, so either ATI or Nvidia is fine.

kthnx.

9600 Pro
9600 XT
9700 Pro
9800 non-pro
9800 SE (flash to Pro YMMV)
FX 5900 (FS/FT or good deal)

Add a VGA Silencer to any of the above for maximum quiet cooling :)

Of those, only the first two are likely to be under $150 new (you may be able to get the other cards used for ~$150, but there are always risks). There's also the GeForce 5700Ultra, but I'd rather take a RADEON 9600XT for ~$130-150; it performs better with AA/AF than the 5700U, and FAR better with games that use pixel shader 2.0 (such as Far Cry, and Half-Life 2 if it ever comes out...)

But then, it's hard to not recommend stepping up to a 9800NP, 9700Pro, or 5900/5900XT -- all of which are ~$175-200. It's around a 50% performance increase across the board from the midrange cards, and it's not that much more money. If you're willing to invest $150 for something okay, you might as well invest $180 for something outstanding.

This is a good point, maybe I'll just have to be convincing to my wife to up my allowance :)

My machine plays Far Cry decently right now, but not fantastical... Hmm... Thanks for all your informations!
