How do I know? Because I'm doing it now..... [groaannnnn]
All because for the life of me, I can't figure out how to network my laptop and desktop together without royally bodgering up my school's network settings on the lappy.
Damn IBM hunkajunk always crashes..... :|

Funny thing is, when doing that, it took a stack of 9 floppies to zip it over. The laptop froze solid 3 times halfway through each attempt. FINALLY made it through once completely and I thought all was well.

I started installing the disks to my PC, only to get an error on disk 8. :|

I never really was fond of IBM, even when I worked for them. 🙁
I should invest in one of those USB or Parallel "Instant Network" kits you can get for under $30US. Would solve a lot of problems provided the software doesn't screw up my already fragile school setup.

direct cable connection via parallel or usb ports! usually not as fast as networking but in your case it certainly wood have been!

Great! If I had a cable with 2 male (female?) ends. 😛 It's at 72% and rockin' and rollin' at 1.3k!! WOOHOO!!! *bonk* zzzzz..zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Geez you must have a crappy ISP.
I usually get a constant 4K-5K/sec when I download stuff from good servers with my 56K modem.

Welcome to my world. 🙂 Can't afford a decent provider so I'm stuck with FUNCOW.
Free, but if you can actually get on, it's dog slow.
Ugh..... WheeeEEEEE!!!!! *BONK* Zzzzzzzzzz.......zz..znuk? 88%..... ZZzzzzzzzzzz...

I am in a similar situation with some downloads. I just stop it and then resume when I get ready to sleep. In the morning my files are (usually) waiting for me.

After 3 hours....... uh oh.... 😱
I'm not sure.... the file just says dx80eng.exe I *thought* I was downloading the right one... seems to be working fine for now anyways. No improvement though.... :disgust:

For future reference, you only need a cable to do DCC. I bought my cable when 95 first came out and it was expensive at compUSA. I think it was $15. I later found the same thing for $8. And it doesn't mess with any settings other than parallel port. It is not the speediest but it works in a pinch. I still keep mine for emergencies.
