DX8 and older games? . . .

I was thinking about upgrading from DX7a to DX8a (Final); however, I wonder if this move will hurt the performance of some of my older games. I am running a GF2 GTS and my system is running fine now. I do run some older DX games like Jedi Knight: DF2, Shogo MAD, Starcraft, etc., and while the performance is fine I am afraid that DX8 may cause some stability issues with the older games. I mean it was hard enough to get JK to run stable on my GF. . . .

Any experiences with DX8 and older (2+ years old) games?

If I do install DX8, I will make a ghost backup of partition just in case I want DX7 back. . . .it never hurts to be conservative. . . :)

No slow downs, but DX8 did completely break compatibility with Requiem: Dark Angel.

I've been using DX8 from it's beta release in my Duron 800@1000 & Geforce2GTS system, and had no problems at all. I do play older games, from the oldest DX games to the just released ones, and also games way older like the early Ultimas! I don't really think that updating to DX8 makes any difference, but so far, I've had no problems. With a GF2, I don't think you should really worry about how the performance is in older games :) but stability instead. I'm pretty sure I've run JK myself with DX8... Shogo and Starcraft both work fine! Same goes for Command&Conquer, HalfLife, Civilization 2, Call To Power and Wargasm, at least. And many more, just can't remember them all!
