$359 is mucho dinero for a m/b. However, i like to see more Hydra reviews. Me don't wanna be a guinea pig

There are quite a few around now. AT reviewed it a while back, it'd be interesting to see how it's matured since then. IMO the premium for a Hydra board is justified as I can put old cards to use....and I have plenty :D

I almost bit since I have way too many cards lying around not being used. The performance and the dependence on profiles made me cautious. So much promise, so little sizzle.

You'd still be better off craigslisting and ebaying your old hardware using this board's premium to get newer gear.

In your (Sylvanas) case, unless you have a LOT of 9800GTX+ lying around you'd get better performance by upgrading to a 5850 than you would by stapling an e.g. ti4200 and 6800GS to that GTS250. And since the motherboard is much harder to upgrade than a video card you'd be locked into your platform. A 5850 is easier to resell to upgrade to Fermi II.

Indeed, that's probably what I'm going to do at some stage. The Hydra has potential but it's not quite there yet, if it was on 50% of all new motherboards then we may have something but as you said, it's just another lock in.

that doesn't make any sense... 350$ is enough to upgrade your older cards to top of the line stuff that will annihilate them...

the only reason to get this is if you already have top end stuff and want it to be a little faster

I didn't say I was actually considering it, hence my 2nd post where I say that Hydra will be worthwhile when it is on half of new motherboards not just one. I aprreciate that someone has come up with a way to make use of old cards- if it was more accessible then it may take off.

The current Hydra has problems with scaling different video cards. I know of all the promises of 100% GPU scaling with cross vendor stuff, but in my opinion Hydra is the perfect replacement for current enthusiast SLI/Crossfire and not reusing old cards.

Yes SLI/Crossfire is a lot cheaper and scales better, but Hydra (in a perfect non-graphical-anomaly world) has much superior results despite the lower framerates. AFR has been the entire reason why I refuse to SLI/Crossfire, and Hydra presents an opportunity for me
