Nice gains on battleforge but on the other hand STALKER took a rather large hit on the average and minimum. Makes you wonder if the patch and driver will improve the performance of dx11 close to dx10 or better

Sometimes it's not about the drivers but the game itself that needs the optimization.

It ran slower because they added many more features into the game:

As mentioned above, to run the DirectX 11 version of Call of Pripyat we need to manually configure the game settings. By default it runs in DirectX 10 mode at most. Through the manual configuration and DirectX 11 renderer we are able to add higher quality shadows, sun and SSAO/HDAO as well as enable tessellation.

I do think future drivers will make it better though.

With DirectX 11 enabled the game runs well although it is clear there is some optimisation to be done, even the time taken to load levels is longer at the moment. ATI tell us that in the next week there will be a patch released for the game which will improve the user experience further and they are also hard at work optimising the drivers for better performance in both render modes.
That sounds to me like ATi is working with the vendor to optimize DX11 performance. Those that claim ATi doesn?t do such things should take note.

As for the Batman arguments presented by the other camp, I guess GSC should lock out nVidia from the DX11 path to ensure nVidia don?t get benefits for free.

The Stalker mask screenshot looks strange. In DX11 the closer filter is nice and round, however the farther one is still "edgy" - it hardly changed compared to the DX10 one. Here's what I mean: Pic

Wasn't tessellation supposed to work for everything? Why did it improve the closer one and not the other one? This looks very strange...

BUUUURN!

Btw Qbah nice catch, it is indeed weird, the right half of the mask is completely unaffected by tesselation

The thing to remember is that when looking at DX11 one should not expect revolutionary gains in image quality from DX10. To do that is to set yourself up for dissapointment. What DX11 does is streamline certain aspects of rendering (merging render passes) that makes it perform better than DX10. What this means is that developers now have access to a standard that will allow them to, for example, rewrite the code for the Crysis engine in a way that will run much faster at the same visual settings. Of course I'm not suggesting they remake Crysis god forbid, and I honestly can't say that I see DX11 as anything other than a same-generation refresh of DX10. For what it's worth, DX11 at least looks to show some form of improvement.

Driver and/or game issue? Remember, the title isn?t finished yet an neither are ATi?s driver optimizations.

That's the idea, higher performance means that better graphic can be done, DX10 allowed higher graphics that cannot be done from a performance perspective under DX9, but the performance improvements in DX10 were less than stellar, that's why DX10 game ran considerably slower than DX9 even tough some games didn't brought any difference in image quality between both APIs (Lost Planet is a good example), some other games gave more performance in the DX10 path with the same image quality (Far Cry 2, Resident Evil 5) and tittles with DX10.1 path brought even better image quality within the same or better performance (Assassin Creed, HAWX, Batteforge). DX11 for sure can will do better graphics within a playable frame rate that couldn't be done under DX10.
