http://www.lwgame.net/news/1-0-3

download here:

http://files.freesoft.ru/rep/673700/dx10_xp.exe

This site is in russian.. Anyway there is a download, and despites some stupid fake FSX pictures i just want to see MYSELF whether this does anything more than placing DirectX10 dlls in the system folder.

On my XP machine i dont have DX10 hardware...and i tried to install XP on an USB stick to test here, but didnt work. I am still depating whether i should make another partition with XP just to see whether this above link is just talking out of their *** or if its actually possible to run games, demos under XP on DX10 hardware.

Programmer claims so. I dont see proof tho.

Debating whetehr i want to try it myself and make a XP partition here just for testing...or maybe just take the HD off the other PC and throw another XP partition on it and boot on it here.

Anyway...try it for yourself and report. DX10 hardware ASSUMED of course.

Please report back what this is.

G.

Add: In in the unlikely event this actually brings DX10 to XP, what DRIVERS would i need? :)

You won't see real benefits of dx 10 if you install this hacked version, honestly DX 10 depends on memory schedular of vista- it can never run properly in XP. What a pile of garbage.

Don't waste your time with this. If you want DX10, run Vista. Otherwise, play your games and enjoy them as usual.

I remember reading about this months ago.
Here is the text translated.

Fix 1 new version is already available for download HERE!

Microsoft representatives have repeatedly stated that DirectX10 is not compatible with WindowsXP. However, the practice has shown that this is not the case! After a long search for a solution to the problem was found a way, rather loophole that helps run games and programs in the regime as Programmatic (with a video card that is not DX10) and hardware (Read V. .. "

He also claims it runs crysis in dx10 on xp.

Believe it when I see it.

Just for kicks I ran it on a system that uses acronis images.
It changes the dxdiag to read directx 10.
But no games I tried would allow dx10 features to be enabled.
Just as I thought , BS

I can't believe people forget the whole point of DX 10- why would you want to run this new advanced component in a old OS that is 6 to 9 years old.

or is this another way to tell "I hate Vista/MS/Bill" etc?

uhm...i am quite aware that DX10 cannot be done on XP with just putting the DLLs there. BUT...if it would (at some time) actually be possible to put DX10 on XP....i might actually really consider switching back to XP.

Sorry...we had threads about this in length. I just dont see the speed advantage ov vista, despites all snazzy superfetch, readyboost, improved TCP etc..etc.... My old XP just feels WAY snappier on a machine which is approx 50x slower than the one i am on right now.
There are other things, certain software i had running on XP now cause trouble.

New OS or not. What counts is how stuff runs and in what "real life" performance it actually translates. Vista doesnt deliver FOR ME as expected, so it would be an alternative to have XP w/ DX10. But..i also have doubts about this "hack" there.

OpenGL 3.0?

Here's a whole bunch of DX10 hardware demos made using OpenGL 2.0 with Nvidia's unofficial extensions. They work in XP, if you have an 8800 or better. OpenGL 3.0 will have DX10 support for all cards and platforms, without using any unofficial extensions like Nvidia's. That means "DX10" not only in XP and Vista, but in Linux and OS X as well.

Here's a video if you don't want to bother installing anything:

DX10 may make more OpenGL games happen.
In their wisdom to make DX10 vista only, they may make OpenGL stronger.
OpenGL 2.2 can already do DX10 level graphics in xp.
So all the benefits of DX10 gaming in XP :)

the coder says he has to get rid of some bugs, but he claims Crysis/DX10 is supposed to run under XP/DX10.

Re OpenGL. Uhm.....how does OpenGL go together with DX??? Wouldnt this need a wrapper DX--->OpenGL? Shudders thinking about program/games-compatibilty....

edit: on a sidenote, Google translation from russian to english does a pretty good job actually:

http://translate.google.com/tr...ru%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

The first block is actually perfectly translated. Impressive compared to some garbage i get once in a while on other sites.

Personally I would never use any DX10 hack on XP regardless, what happens when you have problems or DX gets updated etc...besides it'll never be like the real thing in Vista,oh and I'm the opposite of Flexy,I've my Vista PCs running great for gaming including performance :).

My advice for what its worth leave the DX10 hack alone, its pointless and waste of time...I wonder how long before we see DX11 ;).
