Dx10 for $20 more? k!

Whether it has DX10 or not, the main reason to get a new card should still be DX9 performance, and the 8600GTS is not so hot in that category, considering you can get an X1950 Pro for a (lower) price than that and it will greatly outperform it.

$179 is the lowest price I've ever seen an 8600GTS, but it's still not a good deal. When the price of the GTS is $150~, then it'll be a pretty good deal IMO.

8600GTS is not too hot for $200.
If you get it for $175, I would say, "Hmm, I guess that's kinda ok."
If you get it for $150, I would say you did good. Real good. Enjoy gaming 🙂

What they need is to get all the really bad G80 cores with 64 SP, 256bit bus and 256mb, label it as 8800GS (maybe single slot) and sell it at the price tag of $199. Drop the GTS for around ~150.

nVIDIA gets more cash, we get good performance for a relatively cheap product, everybody's happy except maybe ATi/AMD.

If only..

Agreed....

EDIT: Or they could fancy up the name and call it the 8600GTX....LOL!!

I would say if you want a G84 class card, the best deal for now is 8600 GT for $119 (AR) from Circuit City. Got one for myself and easily does 680/880 with stock cooling. Stuck on VF-700 that laying around and now it does 720/900. I'm not sure what the exact frequencies of 8600 GTS, but it should be quite close. I'm thinking of volt-modding it for even more performance. 😀

I saw that in their ad and thought about it. I was in the store the other day and they had a couple, but I went in yesterday and they didn't have any.
