The spin Fudzilla has put on this article is interesting... If you read it again, you will notice that what Fud is actually saying is that FC2 has a DX10.1 path AND that ATI is releasing a hotfix driver that is supposed to improve FC2 performance. They seem to want the reader to correlate the two together, but the two don't actually appear to be related (at least not yet)...

If you look at: http://support.ati.com/ics/sup...ledge&questionID=38664

It clearly says:

This hotfix

* Improves performance for the DirectX 9 version of Far Cry 2 on CrossFire? compatible systems
* Improves performance for the DirectX 10 version of Far Cry 2 on both single and CrossFire? compatible systems
Based on this, I'm guessing that this hotfix simply has some FC2 specific optimizations in Catalyst AI, and doesn't really have anything to do with DX10.1. It looks like the hotfix is for DX9 as well. Besides why would ATI need to put out a specific hotfix for 10.1 when their hardware already supports it?

Based on this site's benchmarks http://www.pcgameshardware.com...CPU_benchmarks/?page=3 it already looks like the 4870 X2 will beat a GTX 280 in FC2 benchmarks as it is, so it looks like Fud is just trying to stir things up for no reason.

Well the FUD likes to stir things up, just because they hate Nvidia. Now every good thing coming out the ATI gate, even if it is a simple rumor, is exposed and inflated by the FUD, to show that somehow Nvidia sucks and ATI is better. It's their childish way of revenge.

We just have to see if Far Cry 2 really uses dx 10.1 features and works faster on ATi cards . For a game of this magnitude, we'll surely see Nvidia releasing their own "hot fix" to improve the game's performance.

The HD 4870X2 is more powerful than the GTX 280 period. The only way that a GTX 280 outperforms it is when it has scaling issues, and since Far Cry 2 uses a different engine from the one used in Crysis which has some serious scaling issues, this game shouldn't have any problem. DX10.1 improved the performance of Assassin Creed on HD 38XX hardware specially when Anti Aliasing was used and that game doesn't have any kind of global illumination.
