A new driver to support it

Our sources have just confirmed that Far Cry 2 will be a DirectX 10.1 game. We know that Nvidia has its eye on this game and that it likes it as much as it liked the original Crysis back in October 2007 but they couldn't prevent the developer to put the DirectX 10.1 support.

ATI will shortly release a hotfix driver that should boost the performance of this game of Radeon HD 4870 X2 significantly and we our sources are confident that this driver should be enough to beat Geforce GTX 280 in this game.

The game should launch on Tuesday in North America and of Friday in Europe while some of the press already got their hands on this savanna shooter. DirectX 10.1 support in such a significant title is a great victory for ATI and we wonder if this implementation will give ATI some additional performance over Nvidia?s DirectX 10 supporting GT200 family.

I picked it off off XT forums page just as it was, FUD did it. Virge sorry I keep missing up on your name.

Cite your sources please when posting news.

Nemesis, you aren't supposed to quote someone, without linking to their article. It's technically plagiary. Good news for ATI owners, though. They've only had to wait what, 15 months now?

Some people are also way too upset that ATI was able to pull this off :disgust:

plagiarism is not NEARLY as bad as quoting the inquirer as truth... :)

Call me cynical, but is it a real improvement or just a case of taking a payoff to leave out features that are perfectly feasible in DX 9 & 10.0, just to make the DX 10.1 version look better?

<-- happy with my 4870

DX10.1 shouldn't really bring any IQ boost unless the developer is just leaving out features, like with Crysis where DX10 was not needed for Very High but you were stuck with High settings on DX9.

DX10.1 should boost performance though, particularly when AA is applied.

Wouldn't this only be for cards that do AA through the shaders? (ie. 2900 series)

not sure. also the 3000 series did AA the same way too. the 4000 series changed the way AA was done.
