A lot of times I wish they would have just stuck with DX8 for a lot longer. Because we lost high res textures. All this shadows and lighting effects and things have taken such a hit on the system that they had to give up super high res textures. and if you ask me the prettiest most convincing graphics are the ones with high res detailed and defined textures.
