Got before I read your note . . . didn't need link. Anyway . . . it is installed and running, and actually I cannot see anything different at all. As long as the system is happy with it . . . so am I! :):D

Reminds me of "Chicken Little." Yes . . . it is an amended final version of DX8 (not Beta!), but a little investigation shows why it has had no visible impact on my systems. This is from the M$ site:

"DirectX 8.0a Redist

This download contains the DirectX 8.0a redist release. DirectX 8.0a contains updates for issues with international installs on Windows 2000 and issues where input devices could have buttons disabled that were enabled with previous DirectX releases. There are no other changes. For More Information - http://msdn.microsoft.com/directx Version - 8.0a
Release Date - 24 Jan 2001 Estimated Download Size/Time @28.8 - 25,332 kb / 2h 1min System Requirements

- The DirectX 8.0a Redist download supports Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me or Windows 2000. "

In other words, if you are not an "International User of Win2000," it brings absolutely nothing to your party except to let you engage in a big download.

I'm an international user, I never had any problems with Dx8, nor has anyone I talked to. I guess few people really need it.
