2-3k and about 80+ hours of community service/AA/impact weekend, etc.

edit - oh, that doesn't include the insurance hike.

many states won't let you plead out a DUI.

if this is your first DUI or you havent had one in 10yrs and you can get along without your car for 3 months then this is how it will break down. You wont need a lawyer...just get a Public Defender. Plead Guilty to DUI and hand in your license.

this is for NY btw
350 for the fine
25 to get the license back
750 for the DMV fees for the new drive responsibility program
You insurance rate will probably double.

if you need your car then plead guilty and ask to take the drunk driver/alcohol awareness course. The will issue you a conditional license for to and from driving to work.

200 for the class

You insurance rate will probably double.

you will also have to attend a victims impact panel. If you feel you need an attorny to help you then you are looking 2000 just for the attorny. if this is an easy plead case then he can prolly drop the rate for you since you will only have to go to court twice.

for all of you who are casting stones at aircooled, it must be nice to be perfect. I'm sure that no one here has ever done anything imoral/illegal/dangerous

Was he wrong to do it...sure...could he have killed some one...sure, but give the guy a chance to learn from his mistakes before you burn him at the stake. Certainly I do not condone what he has done, but I'll be the first one here to admit that I've driven when i shouldnt' have. For all I know the guy had three beers and got nabbed by a cop that was gonna make an example out of him.

And odds are that there a boatload of people here that did as well...you may have thought that you were fine to drive, when in fact the law would look at it otherwise. As a matter of fact I'd be willing to bet that unless someone has never had a sip of alcohol that most of these people have been legaly under the influence.

It's just unbelievable that so many of you THINK that you are perfect. There used to be a time when people assumed the best in people...not the worst. You guys need to take a long hard look in the mirror before you start judging others.

at the moment it looks like 2K (attorney) plus 24 hours community service or 24 Jail.

I really didn't try to drive drunk. Just had to run to wal-wart after a few beers...

I agree with you

I think it is sad that certain states fund stuff off of DWI convictions. This money should be surplus money.

Oh, and I really hate MADD. Bunch of Nazis.

sadly, intent doesn't matter. I'm sure you are relieved there was not an accident, but I hope you learn from this and never put yourself in that situation again.

The idea of "burning at the stakes" is so that others can learn by your example. You got caught drinking and driving, and now you're paying the price.

Most people are smart enough to call a cab after they've had more than one beer. Why put yourself at risk for a DUI anyway? That's like driving around with a broken headlight for a few weeks; you're practically asking for a ticket.

Couldn't it have waited until the following day? What was at wal-mart that was so important that you risked your life and perhaps others?

Learn from your mistakes... you're lucky to get a second chance. Jail is not fun... been there, done that, paying for it.

You got a second chance, so do right by it and make your life worth it.
