Say you want to record 4 diff. shows that are on at the same time. Is it possible with any of today's units?

You can do that with an HTPC yeah. I don't know of any DVRs from TiVo, Replay, DirecTV, DISH, or Comcast that let you record 4 shows at the same time.

I don't think it is. At most, boxes tend to have only dual tuners AFAIK.

You could always build your own and get 2 dual tuner tv cards :)

Even with an HTPC, you're going to need four tuners, so two standalone dual tuner cards would work...

I think if there are 4 shows on at one time that are worth recording (unless maybe it's sporting events?) it's a sign of the apocalypse!

if you're in the U.S. analog only, unless you have 4 digital tuners from your cable company to decode the signal and send it to your computer via fire wire.
