dvr recorder hookup question

got this explorer 8300 dvd box from time warner, works fine.. reading the manual, it doesn't say how to simply hook up a dvd player to it, so i try every possible combination, moving cables from one side of the dvr box to the other, etc.. i finally get the remote to play the dvd.. whoopie, but how the heck do i switch the video to actually see it.

i already tried going to aux1 and aux2 on the tv, that does not do it.

if anyone has this explorer 8300 dvr recorder gizmo and have it working with a dvd player, pleasse let me know how to make this work.

i have s-video and the rca cables, all 3 from the back of the dvd player going into the explorer box, when i go from dvd player to the tv directly, then the dvds can be viewed.
