DVR Question

I have an old AXP 1500+ sitting in my basement just begging me to make it a Media Center. So I came across an article in the most recent PC Magazine about making your own DVR... something as good as, if not better than TiVo. Says you need some really expensive things to make it work, but in looking around as to what I have, all I'll need to buy is a decent compatible TV Tuner card. I have a 9600np in the rig now with TV-out already so *shrugs*.

I'm thinking about using WinDVR as the main program for it. Any experiences with it? Positive, negative? Do you need to buy a subscription for the TV listings? Or is it just as simple as plugging the cable line into the TV Tuner, installing a few drivers and programs, and enjoying my DVR?

Thanks!
