DVR Information Needed

Hello:

We are planning to buy DVR for the home. Not sure which one needs to be the choice. Friend of mine is talking about computer connected DVR wheares one friend of mine is talking about cable provided DVR. Which DVR system is better? I am new to this area so little confused. I have done some research but not getting enough information. I would appreciate if someone can help me with that.

Thanks in advance.

This should probably be in the "Audio/Video & Home Theater" forum. There are several ways to do this. You can go with Tivo, cable/sat. DVR or an HTPC/DVR. The PC route will probably be the most complicated but also the most customizable. The cable DVRs are pretty cheap but don't have tons of storage so you can't keep very much on there. The newer TV models work very well but you have the initial cost of the unit plus monthly fees.

Start with a list of your needs and a budget. It will help with deciding which path to take.

Currently I'm using a Comcast HD DVR and a Tivo Series 2.

What do you have for a content provider right now? Cable, dish, or just plain old antenna?
