DVR Help

Hey guys, I see there is a comcast DVR vs Tivo thread earlier from June so I'll apologize for asking the same question. I'm in a similar situation but need additional information to come to a conclusion.

I just bought a house in the Greater Boston area - however I am not in a FIOS range so I will be going w/ Comcast.

I'm trying to decide if:
1. I should build my own HTPC for managing DVR content
2. Go with Comcast's new X1 DVR (if I can get it)
3. Go with Tivo's DVR that now comes w/ 'On Demand' in my zip code.

Also, if i go with Tivo, do I only need to purchase 'basic HD service' from Comcast or do I need the DVR service to be able to pass multiple feeds to my Tivo.

If anyone has any good articles, I've been doing a few hours of reading already but haven't found anything great on the topic yet oddly enough. When I try to find technical articles on Comcast's X1, all I find are press release statements from May.

Ok, I think my confusion stems from the fact that there aren't any actual user reviews of the X1 system yet. Damn I really need to be able to compare it to the Tivo to make a good decision.

IIRC the way TIVO works is that you need one cable card per tuner.

M-Cards are available from Comcast. I have a Ceton PCI-E tuner and it gets 4 streams from one CableCard. My experience with Comcast and CableCards has been extremely frustrating.

I went the HTPC route and really like WMC over Comcast's SA 8300HD DVR that is in my area. I am not able to get OnDemand or PPV, but that doesn't concern me.
