dvr cards

what are some good dvr cards with multiple inputs.
looking for a decent card with 6 or 8 video inputs.
any ideas?

It sounds like you are looking for something pretty specialized. The only cards I know about have only a single video in (well, they have different connectors, but you can only have one incoming video stream at a time).

already been doing the google for it. always look for myself before asking.
building a new security system for work and need to replace the old vhs recorder with a dvr set-up.
looking to just build a new box with a dvr card(s) as it will be better and cheaper than one of these stand alone units.
was just wondering if anyone out there had any prefrences as to who made the best cards for the money.
so far as i can tell geovision seems to be a pretty popular brand.

How is your security setup? Are you just replacing the VCR component or the whole thing? Just wondering because the security system I used to use merged 4 cameras onto one screen the VCR recorded just the one screen, which could be taken care of by one PC with one regular PVR card in it.

Otherwise, I guess you could throw multiple cards into one system, it just depends on your cost ratio. Depending on the application you may be better off just going with the proven commercial product. 'course if you're like me you'd want to build it yourself hehe.

has to have ability to record and view all cameras separately and/or in one screen.
also wnat to be able to do remote login, viewing, alarm funtions...

Yeah you'd definately need a commercial solution for that.

its almost a shot in the dark when your are buying these dvr pci cards because there is no standard that this industry follows. it may work in their system and blue screen everytime in yours because of the system components. i am a specialist in the cctv field and having been putting these systems together for awhile now. I am not recommending or even endorsing where i work to be the best but its a great place to start. We are currently working on a new dvr card that should be out shortly, but at the moment take a look at the Visual Witnessif you want all the same features that you are looking for without the need of a computer system.

Oh btw, we do not sell the pci cards separately. just with the system. maybe we will with these newer cards, but i dont know for sure until we see how difficult it is to set up.
