For those of you that use a dvorak keyboard, what methods did you use to learn the keyboard layout? I am touch typing this message as best I can without looking, and man am I slow. This message took a good two minutes to type, when it would have taken seconds before. Any software that you can reccomend? I am already natrually typing some combinations properly, but I realize that it will take some time to learn.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but the Dvorak layout is not significantly faster than the standard layout - save yourself the hassle. Some myths seem to take forever to die...

He never said anything about typing faster than QWERTY.

Anywho, I tried DVORAK but didn't have the patience to learn it. I'd probably just type while looking at the keys until I remembered their locations, then start touch typing, but that's just me.

Good luck! 😀

Learning Dvorak is the same as learning qwerty and learning the piano.

Practice...practice....practice.....

You are doing something I always said I was going to do, but never did.

goog luck

Well, he doesn't have to mention it as improved typing speed is one of the major claims for Dvorak.

If you really want to waste your time teaching your fingers Dvorak, get a copy of Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing (older versions are under $10.), set the keyboard to Dvorak style and let her bully you into submission...

Everything I've seen says the biggest claim for Dvorak is that your fingers do less moving, therefore less work for your hands and more comfort for you. I haven't read anywhere that says you can typer faster in Dvorak than in Qwerty...

Except Dvorak's own original research which was later debunked as a scam.

I have found that the best for me so far is to instant message, as I feel I have to respond quickly. I still have my qwerty keyboard hooked up as well, so that will hinder my learning curve.
