I have a DVI output and a VGA output will I notice any difference in normal use and/or in CS 1.6 gameplay?

It depends on your monitor/projector.

Does your monitor take DVI in? If so, use DVI. If it's VGA only, either one will give the exact same results.

You might notice better quality then, DVI uses digital information over the analog signal instead of going analog the whole way, so it's much harder to corrupt a DVI signal through interference. You'll usually get better color reproduction and sharper text if you use DVI.

Ive found that DVI really makes a big difference on larger screens, ie 17" and above.

1024/768 15" screens with both inputs look almost the same, except for some noise on solid colours covering the whole screen.
