DVI vs VGA cable

Believe it or not, I just upgraded my CRT to an LCD. My video card has dual DVI outputs, but I have been using the DVI-to-VGA converter for CRT. The new LCD did NOT come with a DVI cable, so I am still using the VGA.

Here's my questions, is it worth buying a new cable (DVI) for the monitor?

By the way, it's a LG Flatron W2043T 20" LCD.

Thanks.

I've never been able to tell a difference, but DVI is a digital interface (VGA is analog) and theoretically results in a cleaner image.

On my 24" LCD I can definitely tell the difference. I would recommend picking up a DVI cable if you get a chance since they are pretty cheap.

On my old LCD (Samsung 223BW) the difference between VGA and DVI was night and day. It was so big, that it was practically impossible to comfortably work using VGA (perhaps the port was broken?). Though if you have a chance, always try to use digital - and I don't think a DVI cable is expensive anyway.

I had some trouble getting my now defunct 24'' soyo topaz to work thru DVI. When I did manage to get it to work, the difference was worth it IMO. Looks like at 24'' or higher the difference seems to be a bit more noticeable than at lesser sizes.

You can tell the difference if you know what to look for or have another LCD hooked up via DVI to do a side-by-side comparison, otherwise, you probably won't notice the difference.

Actually, the current monitor I'm looking at (using a school computer) is hooked up via VGA, but it looks pretty good.
