DVI vs. 15p D-sub

I've been looking at getting an LCD for a new college system and I was wondering how big the difference was in image quality between VGA and DVI inputs. Specifically, the DVI input for the Samsung 710 model costs an extra 80 bucks or so - but how much will an average user like me be able to tell the difference (I don't do all that much gaming as of now, but I want to make sure I can play stuff like HL2)?

Also, the video card I'm looking at getting will probably vary with the price of the monitor.

What would be a better plan,
710T (with DVI) + Sapphire Radeon9600XT
or
710N (VGA only) + MSI Radeon 9800 pro128

thanks a lot

On my Samsung 173T there was a minor difference.
On my Xplio 19" there was a HUGE difference.

But you want to play the latest games and the 9600XT isn't that strong. In your case, I'd go the 9800Pro and 15p d-sub route. Personally, I'd go the DVI route because I do a lot of web surfing, video and word processing with some light gaming.

Big difference for me of the crispness of text in 2D in favor of DVI. 9800 and Hitachi CML174XXXX.

DVI,
doesnt make much difference on my 17 in planar lcd, but i can notice it right away on my 19in 1901fp.
Ghosting effects get much worse on an analog, connection as well. Never tried a game via analog on the 17in panel, but im sure it wont be pretty.

If yer not gonna play that many games, not sure how much the diff between the 9600 vs the 9800 gets u.
You'll be using your dvi connections all the time, so its a better bet.
