DVI -> VGA adapter differences

I'm troubleshooting a certain problem which gives me blurry picture in certain cases.

My CRT monitor is connected to the graphics card I just bought (an MSI GTX 560 Ti Hawk) via a DVI -> VGA adapter that came with the card. I've never had the problem with the previous card (an Asus GTX 285), so I'd like to check with the adapter that I've used before.

I was going to simply replace the MSI adapter with the Asus one, but I noticed that they have different pins on them. Based on this diagram, the Asus adapter only has pins [14,15,16] and [22,23,24]. The MSI one has the following additional pins: [1,2],[7,8] and [17,18]. Both have the four rightmost pins and the large horizontal one.

Is it safe to try the Asus adapter (which has fewer pins)? I don't want to damage anything.

its a funny thing, i have a dual dvi card and use a vga adapter for my crt and one dvi output on my card is slightly blurrier than the other. maybe you just got a bum card.

it doesn't matter if the adapter is missing some pins, but from the pins you mentioned, the asus adapter is missing some that it's supposed to have, are you looking at it correctly? it should look like the dvi-a one
