I am searching for a KVM that will be used in the following way:
Computer #1: A brand new Dell E510 running WinXP Media Center Edition
Computer #2: A docked Dell Latitude D810 laptop. I'd like to run this in dual monitor mode, with the monitor that's connected to the KVM being the primary monitor and the laptop screen being the secondary.
Computer #3: A 6 year old Dell that I'd like to use as a Linux machine (I'd like to do this, but it's not essential)
My keyboard is USB and I use a wireless USB mouse that I really like. I'm getting a Dell 1907 DVI monitor so I'd like to be able to use DVI and USB with the KVM.
So far I havn't found many reviews of DVI KVM's and the ones I've seen aren't exactly stellar. The two I've seen the most positive things said about are the IOGear 4-port DVI KVMP Switch (GCS1764) and the Avocent Switchview 4-Port DVI USB KVM Switch USB 2.0 Hub w/Audio (4SVDVI10-001).
All other things being equal, the IOGear is a good bit cheaper since it comes with 4 sets of cables. But if it's not going to do what I need it to and the Avocent will, I will pay the extra money. And if there are other models out there that can do what I'm looking for, I'm open to them.
