Dvi to hdmi converter

So I got a new monitor and it has vga and dvi outputs. It only came with the vga cable. I'll probably get a dvi cable just because. But I came across a dvi to hdmi converter. I'm just wondering what the point is of it. The monitor doesn't have an audio output I don't think. But the graphics card I'm getting has all 3.

You would use that adapter to connect a DVI port to an HDMI port. For example, if you wanted to hook up your PC to a TV, and your video adapter only has DVI and your tv just has HDMI. Use the adapter to convert the DVI to HDMI, then use an HDMI cable to connect to the TV. Since DVI doest do audio, you would need to run a separate cable from the audio out on the PC to the TV's audio input or a receiver.
