...would fitting one of these connecters to my Leadtek 4600 Geforce 4 Graphics card degrade visual quality throught the DVI port as I wanna connect my second 19" CRT to this for a dual monitor set-up???

because the singals will become weaker and weaker when they are transfered from digital to analog, it probably will not be noticeable when you use a 17 inch monitor, but might be noticeable with a 19 inch one. feel free to correct me if i am wrong.

Doesn't the GF4600 use a DVI-I connector? If its properly implmented, the DVI-I connector has digital and analog pins, the DVI>HD-15 adapter should simply use the analog pins...therefore there is no digital>analog conversion. For instance all recent(starting with radeon) AIW cards have DVI output only and come with the adapter for using a CRT. The 2D IQ seems as precise and crisp at 1600X1200 (22" Mitsu) as when I used my Radeon VIVO, which sports VGA only output.

Exactly - DVI-I outgoing connector has both analog and digital signals - and those DVI-VGA adapter plugs contain just a small circuit board with nothing but traces from one connector to the other.

A word of caution though, yes you can build such an adapter in a way that does mess up the analog signal quality - poor shielding, no respect toward the high frequencies, it's thinkable. Haven't seen any that actually were bad though.
