dvi to component adapter?

Newegg has this listed. And then also an ATI brand device. Are they really only ATi compatible, or is that just BS on the packaging?

Otherwise, is there anything comparable for Nvidia cards somewhere?

I'm pretty sure that only works for an ATI card.

Many NVIDIA manufacturers bundle component output cables with their boards, and if a particular card supports it, you should be able to find the proper cable somewhere. It's a little tougher than with ATI cards, since not all of them support it, and you would have to deal with the individual manufacturer.

From what I've read, the best picture quality out of recent Nvidia cards was via DVI, while best picture quality out of ATI cards used to be via the DVI to component adapter (don't know what's true for current ATI cards).

The ATi component adapter requires the Catalyst drivers to work properly in Windows (it won't work at all outside of Windows), so I would assume it is ATi only.

As for alternatives, you can buy a universal transcoder that will work with anything. Though decent ones start at about $150 and go up.

hmmm....maye I'll have to see if I can grab some cables from other manufacturers from ebay or something. I just wanted this because the (non hi-def) CRT I want to plug in to does have component inputs. Also, the s-video out on my card is skewed...like it's rotated just a little to the right. I can overscan it enough such that it's not noticable....unless you're reading text (like from Law and Order) which gets cocked to the side just a bit...

...it gets annoying.

😕 Bolded, capitalized and underlined for further clarification? Basically, since my s-video out is all effed up, and I don't want to shell out the $$$ for a new vid card, I wanted to see if I could get away with some kind of an adapter and use my currently unused DVI out.

I can confirm that the ATI adapter only works for ATI cards.
