DVI stops working

I didn't see the answer to this after searching... just got my new desktop up-and-sorta-running. The DVI was working fine on my Leadtek 6600GT until I installed the nvidia drivers. Once I did that, the monitor says "No DVI signal" and goes into power save mode. It works fine with the VGA cable. The DVI cable will work up until I get into windows with these drivers installed.

I'm sure it's something stupid that I'm overlooking, but your help is appreciated!

I've tried 60 and 75Hz... both work for VGA, neither for DVI with the drivers installed.

Yeah, I don't know, Windows has issues...

:( Sorry, I've never worked with DVI, but that shouldn't make any difference anyway...

This is frustrating... I reinstalled WinXP thinking I did something wrong. Didn't install the nvidia drivers, and the DVI is working fine. It has to be an nvidia issue, right?

I've since read a ton of posts about people having the same problem, though with ATI cards. Is there some way to force the video card to use the DVI output?

Maybe you have to enable the second monitor under ForceWare Devices control panel? Try that...

What motherboard are you using? I had that same problem with an Abit AN8 Ultra and a Leadtek 6600GT. A BIOS update fixed the problem. Are you running the latest BIOS for your motherboard?

Post your system specs please so we can help determine the problem.

What a coincidence... also running the AN8, but the Ultra. I updated to the latest BIOS, but no improvement (last night). I also thought about a video card BIOS, but didn't see anything on Leadtek's website.

Athlon64 3200+
Abit AN8 Ultra
PNY 1GB
Leadtek px6600gt tdh
Sparkle 400W
Seagate SATA HDD
Toshiba DVD

Heh oops, I just changed my post - it was the AN8 Ultra I was running (it's currently off on RMA due to faulty RAM slots that wouldn't run in dual channel).

Anyways, are you absolutely sure you have the newer BIOS on there - verision 16 or 17 (the newest)? Check the number on the end of the BIOS revision when you boot to make sure. If you check the BIOS revision history, under version 16 it mentions "Fixed the issue that certain VGA card does not work with DVI output." That was my problem and I'm pretty sure it's yours as well.

Make absolutely sure you've got the v16 or v17 BIOS on there: here's a direct link to the BIOS page for the AN8 ultra. If you've got the newest BIOS on there (ie version 17), then you can try backpedaling to v16 to see if that helps (the only fix in v17 is a recalibrated CPU temperature monitor in the BIOS).

When you flashed, did you do the Windows flash? If so, you may want to try getting a boot disc and flashing in DOS.

Finally, try completely uninstalling your Nvidia video drivers and install the latest ones. The 77.77's worked fine for me, as did the 78.01's (after I updated the BIOS, of course).

AHA! uGuru didn't flash the BIOS correctly. Thanks for your help, 78.01 drivers are working just fine now. Despite it reporting that the latest BIOS was installed (17), it clearly was not.
