DVI really that important?

Is DVI really worth the extra money it seems to cost? Can get a 17" for quite a bit cheaper without DVI... is it worth it? I use the comp for games and programming mostly.. Will i see a large improvement with DVI over analog?

According to everyone I ask (I don't have a cable yet), yes, but I've never seen it myself. I will be trying soon though.
